Make work pay for you

Ever thought about being your own boss? Wouldn't it be good to work for yourself? Perhaps you currently work for someone else and think you could do better yourself? Maybe you have an idea for a business that just needs a loan to get it started? Possibly you've got a business right now and need to build it up? Maybe you are currently looking for work?

Whatever the circumstances an event, open to residents of South Edinburgh, at the Greenway Centre in Wester Hailes on Saturday 15th September 2001 between 12noon and 4pm is designed to help you achieve that very goal - making work pay for you.

Many people have the skills to work for themselves, whether it's car mechanics, window cleaning, hairdressing, catering, landscape gardening, childminding the list is endless.

Often, it's the support, advice and small loans that people need to get them started (and keep them going) that prevents individuals from taking the plunge.

Sometimes it's the unknown factors such as the tax implications, what happens to your benefits, how to do the market research or write the business plan that the bank need, that holds budding entrepreneurs back.

Whatever the reason, the 'Be Your Own Boss' event on 15th September is designed to answer the many questions that people might have, and could help put you on the road toward making a living by yourself. You can even take the fun, but revealing, entrepreneur profile online developed by 'MindScreen' to see how your personal characteristics compare with those of 80 successful businessmen and women. Additionally, you will receive with Mindscreen's compliments a personal report full of valuable information about yourself.

Drop in any time between 12noon and 4pm on the 15th September to chat to the advisors about your business idea or pick up some information. There is no age barrier and you don't need to have any money in the bank to get it started. If the idea is sound, and the market is there, then the advisors will be happy to help.

The event is supported by the Wester Hailes Representative Council, in conjunction with the Bank of Scotland, the West Edinburgh Pathfinder and Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian.
