Oil from rocks in Gilmerton

Have you ever wondered what goes on
inside the DTI Core Store on Gilmerton Road?
Nearly 300kms of rock, enough to stretch
from, Edinburgh to John OÕGroats, are stored in the DTI Core Store on
Gilmerton Road and form part of a National Archive. These rocks are
samples taken by oil companies when they drill wells off our shores to
aid them in their exploration.
On Saturday 29th September in
association with our main British Geological Survey office at Murchison
House (Kings Buildings site) we will be having an Open Day. Call in any
time between 10am and 5pm and Geologists from the BGS will be available
to show visitors around and talk about the geology of oil. A free
shuttle bus will run hourly between the Core Store and
the main BGS office at Murchison House,
West Mains Road.
