Voice for residents of
Liberton
Community councils are
voluntary groups of people who give time to and have a genuine interest
in the well-being of their community.
They meet usually once a month and their chief role is representative; to consult the local community and to make known to the local authority and other public bodies the views of local people on all matters affecting them. The local authority in turn has a duty to consult community councils on how local services are delivered and other issues affecting their
neighbourhoods.
The Council received the required number of signatures from residents on the electoral roll in the Liberton area requesting the establishment of a community council. Nominations were received from 15 people to fill the 12 places for elected members. An election was held on Thursday 29 March with polling places located at Liberton Kirk Halls and the South Edinburgh Local Council Office. On the day of the election 421 people voted which is a high turn out for a community council election.
The following candidates were elected to serve on the Liberton Community
Council:
Margaret Allan; Thomas Anderson; Charles Bell; Thomas Buchana; William Cook; Edna Flynn; Christopher Hampton; Kenneth Peacock; Moyra reynolds; Johann Schwarz; John Scott and David
Walker.
