Umbro brings football to life

Children from Burdiehouse Primary School took part in a sponsored football class recently and raised several hundred pounds for new sports equipment and resources.

Co-ordinated by Umbro, the Schools Football Initiative is designed to be fun and educational and fits in with Umbro's committment to promoting football in schools.

Gordon Craig, Regional Coach for Scotland told the Echo: "We bring in a team of qualified and SFA certified coaches and teach the children five new skills. The level of skills varies depending on the age group, but in addition to complimenting the 5 - 14 educational guidelines, the kids have fun!"

All children who take part in the event receive a certificate and signed picture and half of the money raised is given back to the school.  The team leave behind a CD-rom for use with different classes - it shows different activities and exercises that any teacher can do with a group.

There is also a website which the children can visit, which encourages the use of new technology.
