What's missing from the area?
NEXT GEN UTD
There has been talk about setting up a youth cafe in this area since the
sixties, but it seems we are no further forward.
So what would be good for youths? Possibly it would be good for teenagers to have a centre of their own, instead of having to roam the streets. There are places provided for other age groups, so why not teenagers. I am sure we would feel more valued in the community if we had a place of our own. People don’t want teenagers hanging about and it can cause a lot of
trouble.
I believe a leisure complex could be the answer, and a great asset to our community. It would help prevent hanging about and provide teenagers with an escape from the home environment. After all, we are the future, and our needs are not being
met.
Within this complex there could be a youth cafe, computer access, cinema, youth theatre, bowling and a games room. There could also be a multipurpose room where other activities could take place: karaoke nights, writers group and adventure group
etc.
If anyone has any other ideas feel free to write to the Echo or join us in the production of a youth magazine - written by young people for young people - which is going to be produced over the summer.
Whether you’re interested in writing, taking photos, a budding artist or would like to learn Desk Top Publishing, get in touch with Susie at the Echo on 621 7065 - leave a message on her voicemail and she promises to get back to
you.
