The heart of the community

Gracemount High School Swing BandThe South Edinburgh Community Complex at 13 Newtoft Street was formally opened on Tuesday, 12th June by Jackie Baillie, MSP, Minister for Social Justice, with a little help from their friends - the Swing Band from Gracemount High School.

The community complex is home to the South Edinburgh Social Inclusion Partnership, your very own South Edinburgh Echo, the Voluntary Sector Support Project, Communities that Care and Worktrack.

Launch CeremonyJoining Jackie Baillie MSP to launch the refurbished offices were Angus Mackay MSP, Margaret Farmer, Community Director for Gilmerton on the SIP Board and Councillor Ken Harrold.

Gilmerton Library who share the building will open for business at 1.30pm on Monday 25th June and make the refurbishment and relocation complete.

The Partnership and library will share meeting room facilities which are also available for use by local community and voluntary organisations within the South Edinburgh area.

The community complex project shows what can be achieved by real 'Partnership Working' -  with the former supermarket building being completely remodelled to provide high quality suitable and accessible premises for organisations providing a worthwhile community resource for the whole of South Edinburgh.
