Christmas Art

In the splendid surroundings of The Assembly Rooms, Nigel Griffiths MP unveiled the finalists of his annual Christmas card competition.

The competition, which is open to all primary school pupils in the Edinburgh South constituency, received 1,500 entries. This year's competitions was won by Lucinda Burns of St Margaret's Primary School.

Mr Griffiths has been running this competition for the last three years and uses the winning design for his personal Christmas card every year.

To help him work through the massive pile of entries this year, Mr Griffiths called upon the Lord Provost Eric Milligan to help him pick out a winner and present the prizes,

While Lucinda gets the ultimate prize of having her design printed as a greetings card, eight other youngsters were singled out by the Lord Provost for their spectacular designs. The result of the competition was as follows: 1st Lucinda Burns, St Margaret's Primary School; 2nd Ryan Lambert, Kingsinch Special School; 3rd Michelle Smith, St Crispin's Special School; 4th Dean Forrest, Gilmerton Primary School;
