New Cycle track for Inch Park

At their Annual General Meeting on 11th October, the
Inch Community Association (Chair: Shevonne McKail and Secretary:
Jeanette Mulgrew) were delighted to announce that the Council's
Recreation Department had given them the green light to proceed with
plans to build a cycle-track in the local park.
At last year's AGM, a number of young people had said
that they would like a track to be built to give them something to do in
the area. The Association, supported by local Councillor Sheila Gilmore,
has been working hard over the last twelve months on this with Eric
Hobson (Recreation), the South Edinburgh Residents' & Tenants'
Support Project and Ian Gilchrist (Capital Skills). A site in the park
has been selected, drawings and costings have been prepared and it will
only remain to find the money for the materials that are needed. The
Association hopes that work on the track will commence early next year,
and that it will be ready for use in the spring.
Amanda Bertram, one of the Inch's Community Directors
on the South Edinburgh Partnership Board, gave a presentation on the
work of the Partnership. The Inch's other Community Director, Ray Wolff,
was unfortunately unable to attend as he is recovering from a serious
illness. The Association would like to send him their best wishes for a
speedy recovery.
The AGM, which was attended by some 30 local people,
went on to re-elect Jeanette and Shevonne, along with Fiona Mackay as
the new Treasurer and Kate Lothian as the new Vice-Chair. Amanda
Bertram, Dorothy Gilhooly, Anne Smith, Eileen Lusher, Scott Fraser and
Donald Bertram were elected as Committee members. Ian Murdoch, the new
Community Worker at Inch House spoke on activities and facilities that
the Centre could offer and said he was looking forward to working
closely with the Association.
Mr. Mooney, Head Teacher at St. John Vianney's also
spoke, inviting all present to make full use of the school's new
computer suite. He added that the school was planning to build a
multi-purpose play area; local consultation would be starting soon on
this proposal.
The Association looks forward to delivering the
cycle-track in their next year and to growing in support and influence.
