More support for residents

More support for community development in South Edinburgh is being provided through a 'Community Development Initiative' (CDI) funded by South Edinburgh Social Inclusion Partnership.

Community groups (and individuals active in the community) have often felt at a disadvantage through being without any practical support to help them: develop their organisations; keep up with information from the Council and the Scottish Executive; develop community initiatives for the betterment of life in South Edinburgh.

When the new CDI starts up in early January, people who wish to play an active role in their communities through tenant, resident, and any other groups, and through the various 'challenge groups' of the Partnership, or on the Board of the Partnership, will be offered assistance to help them participate fully to the best of their ability.

The aim is to make 'social inclusion' a reality instead of just an overworked phrase, and to really build the capacity of individuals, and the community as a whole, in order to achieve real community participation in all aspects of planning and development.

We will be employing development staff to assist the community to determine and to achieve its own objectives, in partnership with all other agencies such as the Council and the Scottish Executive. The staff will not be there to do it for you, but to help you acquire the skills and knowledge to do it for yourself.
