Community Allotment Club

Enable Scotland supports a small group of older people with and without learning disabilities to manage and enjoy their own allotments.

The group rent two allotments at the City of Edinburgh Council Midmar allotment site, near Blackford pond, where they enjoy relaxed gardening and grow a range of vegetables and fruit.

The club aims to open allotment provision for those who would otherwise have difficulty in managing their own allotment and to create an environment where friendships can be made between people with and without disabilities.

The club was fortunate to receive a small grant from the Foundation for People With Learning Disability to cover the cost of tools and a small shed and greenhouse for each plot.

The plot-holders are currently looking for other people who are retired or approaching retirement who are interested in communal allotment gardening.

It is important that new club members are open minded about disability and have time to spare through the week. Knowledge of gardening is not essential as Enable Scotland can provide gardening advice and help with some of the more heavy work.

If you are interested in finding out more about the Community Allotment Club please contact James Fletcher at
