Bigger & Better

The new community library in Gilmerton opened on 25th June, with a range of new and improved services for local residents.

It’s location on Newtoft Street, next to the South Edinburgh Partnership and opposite the Gilmerton Community Centre, is right in the heart of the community.

New facilities include a CD lending service and public access to information technology. There is a Community room available for use by local groups and organisations.

It replaces the original library on Gilmerton Dykes Road, which was opened in 1976.

Councillor Steve Cardownie, unveiled a plaque to officially open the library. He is proud that: "Whilst other local authorities throughout Britain have been forced to cut back on libraries, the City of Edinburgh Council is committed to improving and enhancing libraries for Edinburgh residents."

The library opening hours are:
Monday & Wednesday from 1pm - 8pm;
Tuesday, Thursday & Friday from 10am - 5pm
and Saturday 9am - 1pm
